Abbey and Sam - Soughton Hall Wedding
Abbey and Sam met through mutual friends in school in sixth form and have been together since they were 16 and 17, nearly 8 years. They tell me that they have totally different personalities and interests but have barely spent a day apart for 8 years except for the international trips Abbey has run for school. They say they aren’t the type of couple that makes grand gestures or shows public displays of affection and their engagement reflects this. Early one morning while we were on holiday with friends, Sam took Abbey on a little walk through the woods so that they were on their own and he got down on one knee and popped the question. Happily, Abbey said yes!
December is an important month for Abbey and Sam, totally by accident. They starting dating in December 2012. They moved into their first home together in December 2018. They actually planned to marry in October 2019, but due to the availability of dates at Soughton Hall they had a winter wedding in December 2019.
Abbey tells me that Sam is a bit eccentric and the jacket he chose to wear at the wedding is a replica of the jacket from The Prisoner 1960s television show and was bought from the set in Port Meirion!
Abbey teaches history and the venue was chosen in part because it has a traditional, historic feel to it. They both tell me that they love the room that they got married in, with the original tapestry on the walls, and the original features in the house such as fire places, servants bells, etc. Abbey’s great Grandad also used to work on the estate and so there are some family ties to the house. Family is really important to Abbey and she is changing her name by deed poll to keep Willoughby as a middle name.
Their friends are important to them also and they chose to marry very close to home in part so that it was convenient for their friends and family to join them. They tell me that they have a fairly small circle of friends that they see regularly but are very social and spend every Friday and Saturday inviting people over or going out to various events.
As mentioned above, Abbey and Sam's wedding day was at the stunning Soughton Hall, near Mold. It's a beautiful venue with stunning architecture and creates a perfect backdrop for photos. I thoroughly enjoyed capturing their day and wish them a very long and happy marriage!
